Here's a shot of my first booth in Venice Beach on the boardwalk. It wasn't easy to get--I was not expecting to get one. Thanks to the outgoing and cool nature of my next door neighbor, David, eventually he was able to talkto someone about getting a booth for me. After all the months of visualizing myself having a booth down there, I finally manifested it into reality. I think what made some difference is that I was telling everybody I knew what my intentions were. They then shared that vision with me and all of our collective visions are the fiber of our realities.

The booth was great. It was a Sunday when I went out to Venice Beach Boardwalk for the first booth of my own in twenty years. I've returned an additional two Sundays to vend. It is a really good feeling to be down there and knowing that people like my stuff and are buying my stuff. I love it.

California White Sage

Soon to be offered in my etsy shop. White sage (Salvia Apiana) from the coastal mountains of California. This is a broad leaf sage which is prized for its rich aromatic properties.

Sage is one of the most sacred herbs among indigenous North American peoples. The clean burning sage is used in the energy cleansing ritual known as smudging (or purification), which in theory means the smoke would attach itself to the negative energy of the area and cleanse it so that it becomes positive energy.

Stitch is the smartest dog. He's been trying to get enough inspiration to howl like this for a while. All it took was a rooster crowing alarm clock sound. He did the best howl EVER and I recorded it with my phone. It's dark footage but you can see enough.

Since I started playing these games on facebook, I forgot all about blogging. I'm the only one that reads it. I just miss having this space for free expression that I can just add my stuff to the pile. Facebook games are so fun. I had no idea how very consuming they can be. I know for the last 6 months if I was fortunate enough to be online, I wasn't blogging. I was virtual farming, farkling, or facebooking in some way. I prefer FarmVille to FarmTown but it didn't start out that way. I turned my nose to yoville and i accidentally got my all time hightest Pathwords score EVER while logged in as my mom. I was It's been quite an educational and empowering 6 months. I had no idea of myIt strength. Heroic. Believe in this one thing, everything happens for a reason. When you least expect it, you'll have an eye opening moment of understanding. Orale.

I've been crocheting more than EVER. I'm way faster now, too. Practice makes perfect. I've got some good designs of my own that I'm going to try and make patterns up for. If I get that done, I'll put them up here. Right now, nobody else reads this. Some Free Crochet Patterns may change that. We'll see. There's Tica modeling a hat I made while travelling to and from Csasino Morongo.
I'm working on a 'Hooker Bag'. It's a tote bag for your yarn and hooks that says HOOKER real big and above it really small it says 'crochet'.

This is a steering wheel cover that I crocheted for a friend's vintage car. I used Lion Brand Suede Yarn. Then I laced it up with some NY cotton. I was rather proud of it. I used a Q hook.

A Hinky Hanky for Necky Becky

This is a little scalloped edge hanky thing I made. Just like 99 % of the crochet I do it's reciepient was unknown to me. I don't plan projects out per say... I have a general idea of who may like the piece. This one was sort of done with my Mom in mind. She loves purple and she appreciates my creations. But I didn't talk to her or see her for over a week after I made this. [There was no specific occasion either] Then when Becky saw it, she wanted it. She was helping me with my housework so I was glad that i could give her a gift. I made a really nice cotton crochet pouch a couple of months ago... Not a CLUE who would be the recipient. It was shaping up really nice. Looked endeliably phalic. As I was finishing it up, I got a surprise visit from my nephew, Ray. Hadn't seem him in years. I was showing off my new sweet crochet skills and he was 'taken' by the pouch. It was then at that instant that I knew this pouch was for him. To hold his toothpaste and toothbrush of course!

I am not ashamed to admit it. I am playing 'Pick the Perp' regularly. I Anyone, regardless of attention span, will find it wickedly entertaining. It's a guilty pleasure. You don't have to feel guilty though. It's a good way to hone your instincts. They show you a crime in the form a question.
"Who was charged with Expired Drivers License?"

Can you guess? I guessed #1.

You pick the perpetrator of the crime in question out a line up of 5 perps. These are REAL mugshots!! It's true that a picture is worth a thousand words. New perps are popping up every time I play. There are some repeats, of course. It keeps it interesting because you are testing your memory then. The top of the page shows your stats so you can see how well you've done.

I guessed wrong. It was number 5.

As soon as the results are shown, They fade away and you get a new crime in question. You get five new mugshots.
The pictures are priceless. I mean, really. These little screen shots don't quite capture the looks on the faces, and the hair styles... the clothes. It's one of my favorites. Tell me if you like it.

I took this picture back in February. We were hanging out in the back yard and Stitch jumped onto the bike with Billy. I wonder if they make little helmets for dogs. We were trying to figure out how to transport him from the new house to the old one when we were moving. Billy said he was gonna zip him up into a backpack and wear him. Or, just put a little grippage pad in front fo him on the gas tank. A dog can dream.....

Billy took Adam on his first motorcycle ride Sunday. I snapped a couple shots to commemorate the event. This was about 20 minutes before we had a 4.7 earthquake. What an exciting visit Adam had. We worked all day on his diorama of the Cherokee Indians for school. I didn't get any pictures of that. Tonight is Open House so I'll get a picture then.

The Great Granny 'Ghan

It's GGGgggggrrrrrreeeeaaaat! It's a great big granny square. I made this for Billy for Valentine's Day. Once I started it, I just kept going making the corners in the appropriate places. It was a lot easier than making a great amount of smaller sqares and putting them together. I have two projects like that that I've been working on for about 6 months each. Just making sqaures. And more squares. I have a dilemma... The tightness of my crochet varies with my mood. Far more so that with the diameter of my hook. So happy Kelli crochets with a far different hand that mad Kelli, or sad Kelli. Imagine That!
What's a crocheter supposed to do? I guess just be mindful and excersice control of the emotions and their effect of me. That kind of control is like any muscle you know. Excersice is how skills are honed. Imagine how much is gained when you become, unruffleable. It's like all the people that try to manipulate you are neutralized. It's an empowering feeling. All of our behavior is all based on two main emotions: Fear and Love. I also heard it said once that the two biggest fears against the higher power were:
a.) Public humiliation of another person
b.) Sadness

I'd like to know what other people think of that. I wonder if violence is somehow justified between the lines of that theory.

February was a bit more inspiring. I made the GGG (Great Granny 'Ghan) with love. I know that sounds a bit corny but it's true. He kept asking me to make it bigger. And Bigger. And even Bigger. The yarn I used was Caron Simply Soft Eco. I think I used country blue for the main color. Charcoal, black and heather grey are in there as well... and off white. It's really soft and warm. Billy likes it.

This is the question my mom asked me as she walked thru my room at my new place. My mom didn't consider that I'm in the middle of a move, that has to give me some slack for having that much yarn. At least that much which was visible. I have since added to my collection a little. But I've stopped. My sister and I were buying things from yarnsupply.com when they had free shipping. That ended on the 24th. I got my last box of free shipped ayrn and notions today as a matter of fact. It was like Christmas! becky said it looked like the yarn store threw up on my room. Again.

Such a good dog! I love this little guy. This is a picture I drew on my Nintendo DS with a program called 'Colors'. I's a homebrew program. That means that nintendo didn't make it, someone who knows how to make stuff like this made it. It's a progran where you can paint. It's set apart from the other similiar paint programs that are out there becasue you can send your drawing to an e-mail address via the Nintendo DS wireless internet. I could play it all day. But then when would I crochet? I did this drawing yesterday.

I like drawing girls in a row. I've done several.

I left my camera over at my mom's or else I would post the pictures of his 'girlfriend', a dog we rescued from the street a few days ago. We had her overnight, and the next day we took her to the pound to see if she had a micro chip and she DID!

I was really inspired by this girl's blog, resurrection fern. I love her art. This post especially the Covered Rocks .
It's what inspired me to do this. This is a tiny one. Good for keeping in one's pocket as a reminder. When I think about blessings and miracles, the little rock is just the thing to hold those thoughts. I reach in my pocket and I feel the rock in there. Instant comfort and calm. Like magic. Magical.

MY Little Japanese Friend

I made a Hello Kitty the other day. I tried to follow a pattern but I only got to the fist 6 rounds. It was not anywhere near the way I was picturing it in my head. So without any delay I veered from the proverbial pattern. It was a diagram pattern--not that it makes a difference. I veer off of EVERY pattern I ever try to make. I don't intentionally modify my projects. It's not easy for me to follow patterns yet. I think of them more as guidelines.

Today is my birthday. I'm 35. I always get really reflective around my birhday. No, no no not like bicycle tape reflective.
I'm talking about soul searcing. It's rather healthy.

Stitch Dog, Itch Dog,
Wicked Little Witch Dog...

My dog is named Stitch. He was named that by the first family that he lived with. He has ears like the little blue monster from that Disney movie. He can be mischievous, just like the Stitch in the movie. For most of time, he is a complete joy to be around. The name suits him well. He loves to play with his 'babies'. He has never once had an accident in the house. He has a very obedient nature and he's smart as a whip. He is real eager to please and quick to learn. This dog has the most 'tricks' of any dog I've known. I recently taught him to say 'Hello.' He's only about 2 years old, still acts like a pup. Have you ever seen a dog as cute as this? Can you guess what kind of dog this is? (yah he's a mutt. But what kind of mutt?) I was told that he is a dachshund - lab mix. (That's a Daschsador.) But every single dachsador I've seen has been in photos on the internet and they all have the floppy ears. I get asked by strangers all th time, "What kind of dog is that?" I've been known to say that he's a "Texas Chihuahua". If Texas did have thier own kind of chihuahua, it would be the same as a regular one, only bigger. Right? This dog looks very much like a giant chihuahua from Texas. He has slick fur like a seal. My friend, Courtney used to call him 'Seal Headed Baby'. He acts really babyish, real cuddly. He never (almost never) licks anyone. If he gives a kiss, it's a special deal. He will give you a little nose nudgy, but for the toungue to actually lick the face is rare.
I can go on and forever about the little guy. I'm not feeling really well right now. I've been queasy this morning.

Hair Wraps

I used to do these in Venice Beach about 15 years ago. That's when they first started to become cool. Then after a few years, we saw them everywhere that attracted tourists

Hair Wrap-What you need:

At least 4 or 5 inches of hair

4 or 5 colors of Embroidery Floss-- 5x the length of the wrap So if the final length you desire is 5 inches you need about 25 inches of floss. (Quick way to do this is hold the end of the floss up to the scalp with about 5 or 6 inches dangling on the recipients shoulder and have them to pull the end down to where they want their wrap to end. Then fold your strands 4 times so you have 5 times whatever the length is.)

Hair scrunchie, clips, bobbie pins to hold the rest of the hair up & away

You start by choosing a little strip of hair close to the nap e of the neck. Use a piece that is about an inch in from the hair's border. (see picture) Have the person put their hair up into a tight bun while you hold onto this strip. Use bobby pins or whatever to isolate this strip and give you clean access to the strip of hair. The hair gets braided together with the floss to form the core of the wrap. Hold the floss at the desired length of the wrap add the strip of hair at the scalp to this. The rest of the floss gets wound around the pony tail or bun just while you braid the floss and strip of hair together. After you've braided it down to the bottom, trim the little poking out hairs. Unwind the long length of floss from the bun. Now you should have a core (braid of hair and floss) with a long length of floss hanging out of the top. Just like making friendship bracelets when we were kids, you going to create blocks of color by knotting the strands around the core. Don't put too many beads or it will be too heavy.

This one I did last year for my friend, Courtney. It took about 6 hours to do. It was really nice and sturdy. It looked really good at that length. I was really proud of it. She chose earthy, natural colors. There are little african bells dangling from the very bottom, They can get a bit annoying and you can forget about sneaking up on anyone. It's just a novel thing to add, most girls take the bells of after about a week.

This is the Bookworm that I crocheted for my boyfriend's Ma. She just celebrated a birthday which this little guy was supposed to be a gift. He wasn't quite ready in time. He was, however, completed in perfect time for the day which she finally achieved the HIGH SCORE for the game. She had been playing vigilantly for a couple of months and the record High Score (which was held by Billy) remained in tact. Since she was so proud of her achievement, we honored her by presenting her with the crochet version of her favorite game mascot. I made his little eyeglasses from some coated crafting wire I had. He is stuffed with cut up plastic grocery bags because I had no poly fiber fill. I did not make a pattern - I can barely follow one. I inserted a nice plastic coated stick in him so he could be a plant poker. He's posted up in a potted violet right by where Ma plays Bookworm. This is my very first amigurumi. Now I want to make all sorts of happy little ami's.

Hi. Welcome to my blog. Despite the title, there is nothing here about fishing. I'll be covering topics like crochet (that is done with a Hook), funny lyrics for our favorite songs(the lines), Nintendo DS games, life with Billy, and our dog, Stitch. (The stinker!) Life is so full of material to fill up a blog with. Chock full.

Crochet is a french word. Very often, purposely pronounced 'Crotch-It' as a term of endearment. It's helped me to begin my recovery from a serious Nintendo DS addiction. I still play Club House Games - Billiards every day. Billy is always supportive of whatever compels me at the moment. He 'hooked' me up with a hooks he got at the thrift store yesterday. It was about 20 hooks and a little zipping up leather case. Thanks again, Billy! Stitch, my dog, gets his yarn on too. That's my yarn, Stitch! You can't have it.

I've been wanting to set this blog up for a while just so I could have something to look back upon and refresh my waning short term memory. It's so much harder to remember things now that I'm older. I'm going to be 35 this year. Whoa, that just hit me. I knew how old I was, but typing that sentence just now planted the reality firmly into my mind. Eventually, I may learn to write patterns and give them away. I find patterns to be overwhelmingly cryptic. I'll start from a pattern, with good intentions, but soon I've converted to free form.

This blog has also been born as a sister-blog to Playin' Hookie at Work , which is my sister's blog. She's the one who taught me how to crochet recently. She's a natural born whiz at anything textile. She sews, crochets, and needlepoint or cross stitches -- all that. She comes over and we post up with our yarn and our hooks and have a full on Stitch & Bitch that can go on till 3 in the morning. She designs the coolest shit! She made some little booties for Newborns in Need and they look like little tennis shoes. She's doing a Hello Kitty face right now.

I'm working on a few different projects all the time. Never just one. Right now, I'm making a pillow for Billy.
